Deep Clean vs Standard Clean: What Actually Changes

Cleaning companies use these words differently, which makes comparing quotes harder than it should be. Here is exactly what each level means when we say it, so you can see what you are buying.

Standard: the recurring clean

This is what most homes book, on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly schedule. Kitchen appliance exteriors, the stovetop broken down to burners and drip pans, cabinet faces, countertops and the sink. Bathrooms sanitized throughout, including baseboards, vents and extractor fans. Floors vacuumed and mopped, surfaces and ceiling fans dusted, walls and doors spot-cleaned, trash out. It keeps a home at a steady level rather than pushing it to a new one.

Standard+: the useful middle

Everything in Standard, plus interior windows and lock detailing, the inside of the microwave, and calcium and lime descaling where the water has left its mark. If your recurring clean feels close but the bathroom glass and the windows are slowly losing ground, this is the level you actually want.

Deep: the catch-up

This is where the interiors open up. Inside the refrigerator, oven, microwave and dishwasher. Cabinetry, drawers and shelves. Countertops degreased rather than wiped. Interior windows including the sills and tracks. Baseboards, trim, vents, fans and shelving hand-wiped rather than dusted. Light fixtures detailed. It takes considerably longer than a Standard clean, and it is the usual starting point for a home that has not had regular help.

Turnover: the empty-property reset

Everything in Deep, taken to the standard a new occupant should walk into: cabinet and drawer interiors, shower and tub descaled down to the grout and tracks, floors scrubbed into the corners, closets and storage cleared and wiped, walls spot treated. It is built for rental changeovers and property handovers, and it assumes the property is empty.

Light: keeping the gap short

A quick reset between deeper visits. Surface dusting, light vacuuming, the kitchen and bathroom kept presentable, beds made, trash out. Households book it between bi-weekly or monthly visits when a full clean is more than they need.

Which one do you need

• Moving in or out, or handing a rental over: Turnover.
• Nobody has cleaned properly in six months or more: Deep, then a schedule.
• Already on a schedule but the glass and windows are slipping: Standard+.
• On a schedule and happy with it: Standard.
